MERCER ISLAND CENTER FOR THE ARTS PLANNING
Location: Mercer Island, WA
Client: Mercer Island Center for the Arts
KO Projects leads business and institutional planning for Mercer Island Center for the Arts, a group of community leaders planning a new arts center to accommodate producing theatre, dance, music, and presented works. Early work included detailed needs assessments of functional needs and activity projections from 7 prospective user groups; development of project vision, concept, and business case, and management of design team selection process. During concept design, detailed operating and management analyses and pro forma operating estimates were developed iteratively with the progress of building plans.
Other work included design and construction team management, project cost planning, economic impact analysis, business case development, public presentations, and development of key messages regarding community impact and value. In 2016, MICA elected to re-consider its proposed site and solicit more detailed feedback from the Mercer Island community about program interest, project support, and other topics. KO Projects has worked closely with MICA leadership to blend project planning and due-diligence with a substantial community listening process.
MICA is presently engaged in planning for co-development of an arts center in a multi-use transit-oriented development project near downtown. KO Projects continues to work closely with the real estate team and advise MICA on project strategy, business planning, and institutional development.
