PERFORMING ARTS INFRASTRUCTURE STUDY
Location: Port Townsend, WA
Client: City of Port Townsend
The City of Port Townsend is home to a range of vibrant performing arts activity as well as numerous performing arts organizations and individual artists. The performing arts are integral to the City’s identity as an arts destination, and draw both locals and visitors to programming throughout the year. Plans for a variety of new or renovated performance venues have been developed over the years, and new projects were under consideration by a variety of entities, though there were largely being planned independently. The City of Port Townsend engaged KO Projects to undertake a holistic scan of the area’s performing arts facility infrastructure. The study informed investment in performing arts facility projects with an eye towards maximizing venue utilization; serving performing arts organizations, students, and artists; and meeting audience demand from locals and visitors alike. The study examined the range-of-magnitude audience demand potential in the Port Townsend market area, reviewed existing and planned arts facilities, and identified the opportunities and challenges that should inform future public and private investment in Port Townsend’s performing arts infrastructure.
